(Based on a true story)
(Yes, I actually had the dream exactly the day I rewrote the prologue.)
“You still have these things?” Runa asked as she walked up to one of my bookshelf, she took out a book. The cover was a Minecraft screenshot of a jungle with a Minecrafter wearing blue tops and green pants holding a greenish sword, behind him stood a tall and lanky Endermen named Erebus.
“Oh boy, the memories reading that!” I grinned, “I still remember my imagination already going wild just from reading the first five pages.” I took the book from her hand and turned to a random page, the scene was about the main character meeting the Minecraft villagers for the first time, a crowd of sentient robe-wearing people with their hands stuck to each other.
“How’d you find that thing, anyway?” Runa continued to ask me, her face gleaming with happiness.
Closing the book, I responded casually, “Walked through a mall and passed by a bookstore, they had this book out at the front window. I read the first few pages and bought it. How long ago was that… three years already?”
She chuckled brightly, “I remember you writing another Minecraft fanfiction right after you finished that book,” She pointed to my hand, “How’s it going right now?”
This is awkward.
She must’ve seen that I started to feel really uncomfortable because she went ahead to lightly punch my arm, her expression still bright, “I know you were a little busy the last couple of years, but you really need to get back to it! It’s really good, and for the first time you actually have time to work on it!”
Smiling, I responded, “I probably should go ahead tonight.”
“Of course you should, my little prince!” Runa said excitedly as she hopped up and down.
“Alrighty, my little princess. Come with me,” I said, “I’m guessing you want to see this.”
We made a beeline straight for the computer, taking my Sony earphones along the way. Shortly, I plopped down in front of my computer monitor and Runa took a seat on the couch right beside me. After the screen showed the Windows logo with a useless series of dots running around in circles below, I typed in my password and went ahead to click on my Word documents that had all my Minecraft fanfiction typed out. Plugging in my earphones, I went to YouTube, searched for ‘Minecraft Disc 11 + 13 Audio’, and clicked on the first video I saw.
“Why the heck are you listening to that? That thing’s creepy,” Runa said.
“I’m rewriting my prologue, which I based it on Disc 11. So now I need it to remind myself and get into the mood…” I held out one of the earphones for her, “You wanna listen?”
“Oh, don’t count me in.” Runa shrunk back, “I had nightmares the first time I heard that and slept.”
Chuckling, I stuck the earphone into my ears and clicked play. The unsettling, ambient noise began playing in my ears as I deleted parts of the prologue and wrote… and wrote… and wrote…
A white room.
A white, padded room.
A white, padded room with one white bed.
A white, padded room with one white bed and no door in sight.
Heard everything, heard nothing. Saw everything, saw nothing. Felt everything, felt nothing.
Can not think.
A door appears out of nowhere, popped out of the wall.
Walked towards the white, padded door. Came to a hallway.
Hallway was dull.
Everything too big…
Heard ambient noises. I…
heard them before.
Another door with window leads to room.
Room with devices.
Room with many devices and screens.
Climbed up onto desk and saw a screen.
A screen showed a white, padded room with a white bed and a white, padded door.
More ambient noises…
HEY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE!?!?
“AHH!!!” I screamed, my voice echoing in the metallic hallway. My hand reached for my neck and pulled out a dart. Everything was crystal clear now, but I have a feeling it was not because of the dart. Looking behind me I saw a tall and lanky man with a dart gun in his hand. He didn’t say anything and proceeded to run after me. My heart raced and knowing nothing good was going to come out if he caught me, I started to run down the endless branches of hallways. My heart raced, as the environment around me changed into a hallway of stone blocks, my footsteps echoed and my heart beated along with them. The stone cave was pitch black, I couldn’t see anything! I was pretty much running with a scarf tied over my eyes. The unsettling ambient noises reverberated in the cave, I recognized them! But I couldn’t pinpoint where I heard t-
Suddenly, my body flew into the air and I landed face first onto solid stone, skidding a few blocks forwards. Footsteps continued to echo but I wasn’t running… Wait…
I peeked behind me and saw the man running after me, eyes bright and white. Heart beating rapidly, I picked myself up from the ground but stumbled again, falling again. I turned my body around, I heard the creepy ambient noise more deafening each second and saw the man almost on top of me and I held up two arms with no fingers and the man was holding a knife and I screamed, “HER-”
I woke up in my own bed, shivering.
What the hell was that?
I was in my bed, warm and comfy, blankets soft and fluffy. I’m staying here until I get my thoughts back together.
I looked at my own bed, it was not bland and white. I looked at my blanket, it was not bland and white. Thank god for that.
The ambient noises, I heard them before. Where did those noises come from again…? Oh, wait a moment…
There’s… something about my head that gets triggered once I listen to any of these things…
You know what, the sarcastic voice in my head began, Once you finish that damn prologue to your story you are not to touch that Disc 11 thing and Disc 13 thing ever again.
Never have I ever agreed more with my own voice…
