The clear, moonlit sky bathed the grassy landscape, reaching even into the darkest shadows of the forested areas. The girl glanced up at the full moon, smiling as a cool, nigh-time breeze gently tugged at her silvery-gold locks of hair. She looked back at the thick forest, turned, and made her way down the hill.

She stepped into plains, and suddenly stopped as a voice pierced the silence.

“Hello,”A gentle,feminine voice greeted.

The girl’s sky blue eyes darted around, trying to find the source of the voice.

“Where are you?”She asked, her puzzlement showing through her voice.

“You can’t see me,”The voice said,”But I can hear you,and you can hear me.”

The girl stared down at her feet in bewilderment, noticing her clothes for the first time. Her smock was a grassy green, with a slightly darker stripe running down the middle. Its sleeves reached down to her wrists, leaving just enough room for her boxy hands.

“Now,”The voice said, interrupting her thoughts of confusion,”What is your name?”

“M-my name?”The girl asked,”Now that I think about it,I don’t think I have a name.Do you have one?”

“Yes,”The voice said,”You will know it in time.”

“Oh,”The girl looked down at her feet again, thinking.

“If you don’t know your name,”The voice suddenly asked”Do you know who you are?”

“Aren’t those the same thing?”The girl said.

The woman seemed to smile with her voice.

“No,they are very different, very different indeed.”

“Do you  know who I am?”The girl questioned curiosly.

“I know one thing, you are a crafter,a light-crafter.”The voice said quietly,as if it was a secret that only few knew.

“A light-crafter?What’s that?”The newly-found light-crafter asked.

“A light-crafter helps maintain balance of Minecraft by improving the items of light.”The voice explained.

“But for balance to exsist, there must be two oppisite forces, equal in size and strength.”The light-crafter said,”So that means there must be an oppisite force.”

The voice sighed.

“The shadow-crafters improve the items of darkness, like zombies,or lava.”it said.”But they must kept in check by the light-crafters.”

“But zombies and lava hurt the villagers,”the young light-crafter said, somehow knowing the information,”How can that be good?”

“It maintains the balance,”the voice sighed again,”If the shadow-crafters were destroyed, along with everything they craft, the servers would become overpopulated by villagers, causing it to crash, destroying the life of every villager, animal, and monster, forever.”

The light-crafter stood silent for a moment, the information slowly sinking in.

“In other words,”The light-crafter finally said,”For life to continue, there must be death.”

“Yes,”The voice said softly,”Now,”her tone rose slightly is volume and joy, causing the light-crafter’s eyes to lift slightly,”You are a light-crafter.You must have something to craft.”

The young light-crafter studied her sorroundings, glancing at every tree, shrub, and flower she saw.

“How will know what I will craft?”She asked worriedly.”And how will I know my name?”

“You’ll know,”was all the voice said.

The light-crafter started walking toward another small hill in hopes of finding the item she was meant to craft.

She spotted a beautiful lilac patch growing near the edge of a small section of trees on the plains. She carresed the soft, lavendar petals, hoping for some sign of her fate.

Nothing.

A cave in the nearby ground emitted the soft glow of firelight as a torch flickered and flared at the entrance. She took a few steps along the stone floor toward the glowing torch. She gently pulled the torch from the wall and held it out in front of her.

She sighed.

Nothing.

The discouraged light-crafter tucked the torch into her inventory and started towards the cave’s exit.

As she neared the mouth of the cave, she spotted a shiny flicker near the edge of the cave. She slowly stepped nearer and pulled out her torch. An iron ore stood before her, surrounded by blocks of stone.

She brushed her hand across the surface if the metal, hoping for something, anything.

Nothing.

She rushed out of the cave, tears slowly forming in her eyes.

She fell to her knees several bolcks outside, her golden hair falling into her face, and started softly whimpering to herself.

‘There are thousands of items across all of Minecraft”,she thought tearfully,”how will I ever find the one meant for me?”

A whisper,almost a breeze brushed past her.

Look up,it seemed to say.

“I must be tired”,She thought,”I’m starting to hear things.”

The breeze-like voice came back, but now it sounded more confident, stronger.

LOOK UP.

The light-crafter slowly opened her eyes and turned her head upwards.

She gasped with awe and excitement.

Stars, thousands, millions,of stars shimmered and sparkled in the sky above her. Some declared their presence by shining bright, while others chose to give off flares of brillant light every so often.

“You were right Oracle,”Somehow now knowing the voice’s name.”I knew.”

And the breeze-like voice whispered one word, not a brillant,or fancy,or even long, but a word that declared the fate of thousands of villagers across all of Minecraft.
