Crumbs

By: Lily

Despite its location, Dot’s Donut Shop was about to
get famous.

Two years earlier . . .

“Mom can I go and and get a job offer at Dot’s,” I
yelled from across the room.
“Sure, but you don’t know how to make donuts
Steffany,” mom yelled back.

20 minutes later. . .

Looking at the store my mouth wide open and taking
just a step back in amazement the store just didn’t look the
same as it was when I was 8 and ahalf
when my mom
took me to Dot’s Donut Shop. I admittedly walked through
the door to ask for a job offer. When I walked in the door
then I saw Joey and Jen my friends from school and I
thought, if they work here I can work here too .
“Hey, Steffany,” Jen and Joey sadly said.
And at that moment Steffany tripped on the edge of
the uneven floor and Jen and Joey stopped and sprinted
to me. “Are you ok Steffany,” Jen asked with a worry in
her tone.
“Yeah, I’m fine it’s just the uneven floor that did it. I
should really watch where I’m going.”
“Why did you say my name is a sad tone?” I asked
Jen and Joey.
“The shop is closing down in a year and we can’t do
anything about it.”
“Oh I understand, by the way where is the store
manager?” I asked Joey.
“Oh he’s in the office. To get there you take two
rights, walk straight, and you’ll hit it.”
I followed the directions that Joey gave me. I took two
rights and I walked straight and then I did hit it with my
head because there was a sign that said store manager
on it. Then someone came to the door and opened the
door. It scared me to death when the store manager
asked, “What are you doing here?”
“Hi, I’m Steffany what’s your name?”
“Bob, Bob Johansen. Hi Steffany, what are you doing
here?”
“I’m here to get a job offer sir.”
“No, we already have enough workers here at the
wonderful Dot’s Donut Shop.”
“Sir, you only have two workers.”
“Well, three makes a crowd, so scram.”
With tears in my eyes I went back to the kitchen
where Jen and Joey were. When I got there they ran
up to me with excitement in their soul without me
even talking to them.
I went to my car and drove home. With
disappointment I ran to my room and checked my
phone. I saw that Jen and Joey both called and texted
me. I listened to Jen´s voicemail and read her texts.
One of her texts said:
What’s wrong tell me please.
Then I read Joey´s text message it said,
There’s something wrong, what is it?
I replied to both of them.
Your boss didn’t hire me for the job. He said three’s a
crowd, so scram… that’s exactly what he said.
They both said, oh I didn’t know you should’ve told
us before you went out the door.
Yeah, do you think that Bob will change his mind
tomorrow like he’ll say yeah you can have the job?
Maybe Steffany, Jen said back.
By then my mom came to my room and said,
“Hey, I saw you didn’t get the job today. I was thinking
maybe we could go to a place that gives you lessons
on how to make donuts.”
“Or, I could ask Jen and Joey to give me lessons
for me to learn how to make donuts.”

2 days later. . .

“I´m ready to go to lessons mom, see you later.”

20 minutes later. . .

I got to the shop, took a deep breathe in, and
went in with confidence. When I got in no one was
there so I assumed that Jen and Joey would be in the
kitchen. When I got in the kitchen Jen and Joey
scared me half to death.
“Welcome to your first day of donut camp” Joey said
in a shocking voice.
“You’ll have a lot of fun making donuts with us
Steffany.”
“Ok, I bet I’ll have a lot of fun making donuts with you
guys, so what are we making today.”

19 donut lessons later. . .

“Ok, what are we doing today chef?”
“You’re making the donut today because you’ve
learned all that there is so you’re taking a test on the last
day of donut camp.’’
“Ok, chef what do I have to do on the test.”
“You have to make us a donut and we will judge if you
are ready to work here.”
“Ok, so basically like a Donut Showdown.”
“Yes, But there is no time limit.”

20 minutes later. . .

I put my donuts on the plate and decorated it. Jen’s
donut was a lemon donut and a raspberry glaze with
sugared lemon curd. Joey’s donut was a chocolate donut
with a orange merain topped with teal sprinkles. So after I
was done with the plate I presented the donuts to Jen and
Joey.
After they tried the donut they told me that. . . “You’re
ready to make donuts Steffany.”
“I am! I’m fully ready to make donuts so I can go ask
Bob for a job offer.”
“Yes a hundred thousand times yes!”
So I went to the office and I asked can I work here
and guess what he said. . . . . . . . . YES!
I ran back and told Jen and Joey that Bob said yes.

2 years back. . .

After a while me Jen and Joey became the best donut
makers in all of Texas.
