¨It was the Nebraska High School Football Championship, aka the
NHSFC. The brisk November wind swirled around my face. The glaring
sunlight shone down on my face. I was finally on Memorial Stadium’s home
team bench. This was it; the big red championship was in my grasp.
The coolest thing was that Platteview was playing their biggest rival: The
Louisville Lions. The purple and gold of Louisville converged with the red
and white of Platteview.
Every team has a flaw, and for the Trojans, it was their defense, while
Louisville had bad offense. Their best and worst “offenses” would be at
each other. It was an equal game, and both sidelines knew it.
Louisville had won the coin toss, and elected to kick. Louisville kicked it
far and high, drifting to the 1 yd. line. Brady Davis got hammered at 5. The
Trojan offense marched onto the field. Their spread offense lined up onto
the field. The QB for the Trojans, Bryson Rock, tried to hand of the ball to
number 16 of the Trojans. But he got hammered before he could hand the
ball off. It went like this for an 3 and out, always number 21.
It went like this for the entire quarter, and
half until the fourth quarter.
On a power play, Nate Deems of Louisville did a little sidestep, and faked
out a defender on Trojan defense. That was the last person in his way as
he effortlessly danced into the endzone. Lion fans everywhere cheered and
jumped to their feet. The players of Louisville jumped on him and shower
Nate with compliments. Both sidelines thought that the game was over.
The lions kicked off. Brady got hammered again, but this time made 15
yds. But he remained on the field. Brady who was a running back was the
heart and soul of Platteview. Platteview had lost their best player. There
was thought to be no hope. The Trojans went three and out, and punted the
football to the opposing side: the Trojan 30. The ball rolled in for a touchback.
Lion offense roared onto the field. The first play was a pass. But wait.
The young senior QB was being pressured. Without looking, he threw it up
in the air. Like magic, it floated into defender Jaxon Adams hands. It had
been picked off! He juked and jived, and threw himself into the endzone.
Touchdown Platteview with 5 minutes left! Platteview decided to go for
it. A 2 pt. Conversion. The new RB lined up in the backfield. The center
snapped the ball. But Louisville was all over him. He was down 5 yds. Away
from tie game. Score: Louisville up 76.
Platteview fans lowered their heads. There was no way it could happen.
Platteview decided to line up for an onside kick. The punter, Andy lined
up for the kick. Both sides of the game thought that this could be the last
chance for Platteview. The ref blew the whistle, and now it was anybody´s
ball. It bounced of the ground, and bounced off of Andre Dominguez
(Louisville) padding. Jaxon (Platteview) dove for the football. The referee
blew the whistle. At the bottom of the pile, there was the football cradled in
Jackson’s arms. It´s not over yet!
It was Platteview´s ball at the 40 yd line. They first went for a hail mary,
an obvious choice. Louisville was ready as they batted a pass away thrown
by Bryson Rock. next was a four verticals, deflected by Andre. Then came
a quick 45 HB base. Louisville came unprepared. They lined up in a
mam-to-man coverage. Rieman Ziebert darted away from a would be
tackler, spun into the first down marker. Crossed the 30! 20! Now Ziebert
has trouble. Heś got a safety on is tail. Henry of Louisville dives at his heels
at the 5 with 00.00 left! And Ziebert dives¨…..

“And He’s in! Touchdown Platteview! People surrounded #16, for he was the MVP of
the game. Louisville fans hung their heads as Platteview players filled the field. An
explosion of red and white covered the stadium(as if it already didn´t have enough).
30 minutes later, Rieman Ziebert was holding the Nebraska state football trophy.
Players were holding their helmets in their hands, high above their heads in victory.
Rieman Ziebert himself put the state trophy in the high school trophy case. He wore
a smile on his face as his coach patted him on the back.
