Introduction
My name is Glustyx, and I am a viking sea monster. I
am 268 years old, which means I am still young for a sea
monster. I am roughly 100 feet long, but I have never
actually measured. Even though vikings call me Jormungandr,
that is not my true name. Vikings were like sharks. They hunt
and travel in the ocean and seas. The vikings all had small
farms, and they loved skiing. Viking women also had almost as
many rights as men, one of those rights is being able to own
land. This is the story of how my viking friend Vigi Loptsson
and I saved the world from the mischief maker god Loki. But
first we need the story of how Vigi and I met.
2
I lived a life of constant danger. Either the Vikings
were trying to fish and accidentally got me with their spears
or net, or sharks smelled my blood because a viking
accidentally nicked me with his spear. Also, they are
sometimes setting boats on fire with dead loved ones in it
and setting the boats assail. Can you imagine what that does
to the environment? I was the only sea monster of my kind
left as far as I knew. My mother disappeared shortly after I
hatched and I was the only egg that was not a dud. Anyway,
one day I was wandering close to the shore. I heard a couple
of voices. It was a young boy and his father.
“Son,” the father said, “Never go near the water
without a strong man or Jormungandr will get you.”
“Oh Dad,” the boy replied. “I have no fear of that sea
monster.”
The dad replied, “Vigi, if you go in that water of your
own free will I will not cry at your death.”
“Fine!” Vigi said. Then they walked away. I knew how
to speak the vikings’ language because I had grown up around
them.
That night, just as I was settling down in my cave at
the shore, I heard footsteps on land. I came out of my cave
to investigate. I heard Vigi talking to himself.
“I will find Jormungandr and ride him!” Vigi declared.
“Then my father will know how powerful I am.” I finally got a
look at Vigi. He was tall, had blonde hair, and was very stout.
Most vikings had blonde hair because they would bleach their
hair to respect the viking culture ideals. Also, it helped with
head lice. He was very clean, because vikings actually have
3
very good hygiene.
The last thing about him was that he wore a symbol. Then I
had a flashback.
I was swimming around, and I was just a baby, only,
like, 3 years old. I was laughing at something, then my
mother screamed. “Swim away! Swim away!” she called, but I
didn’t know where to swim. Then a boat appeared with that
symbol on it, and there were vikings on the boat, vikings that
were throwing nets all around. Then the boat rushed past,
sweeping my mother and I in different directions. I got
swept into a nearby cave but my mother was thrown far out
to sea.
Then, I came out of my trance and Vigi was right
there! I growled at Vigi. Now, I had never shown any
aggression towards vikings but this was different. Vigi
pointed up and then started swimming to the surface.
When we got to the surface he said, “I know you can
talk. I heard you yelling for your mom.” I sighed.
“Why are you wearing that symbol?” I asked.
“It is a symbol called The Triple Horn of Odin. The
Triple Horn of Odin is used as a sign of commitment to
modern Asatru faith. It is always either worn or put on
display.” He replied proudly. Then he said, “I need your help.
If I do not prove myself to my father, and we do not stop
Loki, then all is lost.”
“Don’t try to trick me.” I said. “I heard you talking
about proving yourself to your father, but you said nothing
about mischief maker Loki.”
4
Vigi said, “I just wanted to prove myself to my father
so that I could be chosen to go on the journey to help stop
Loki.”
“Fine.” I said.
Vigi got me up very early the next morning. We had
stayed up late planning for our attack on Loki. First, we were
going to borrow Vigi’s father’s boat, which was named Alptr,
and Vigi and I would start traveling to the dangerous Island
of the Gods. Loki was there, so that’s where we wanted to go.
Second, we would lure Loki to the shore, so that I could join
the battle. Third, we have to get Loki’s weapon and stop him
or he will destroy us all!
… We arrived at the island, and Loki was nowhere in
sight. “Stay here,” Vigi whispered, “I will find Loki and bring
him here.”
“OK,” I whispered back. Then Vigi walked away. An
hour had passed and still no sign of Vigi. Then a eagle burst
out of the trees and started circling the trees. There was
something different about this eagle though. There was some
sort of shimmery effect that made him seem powerful. Then,
it dawned at me. This was Loki! I had forgotten all about his
shape-shifting!
Loki swooped down and shifted into his normal shape
again. “Hello Glustyx,” he said.
“H-h-how do you know my name?” I asked.
“Because. I am your grandfather and your father,” he
replied.
I screamed, “WHAT!?”
“It is true. I shape-shifted and mated the first
Jormungandr, and then I shape-shifted again and mated your
5
mother. I am afraid there is a curse that makes it so that
when I mate with the Jormungandr family, only one of the
eggs survive.” said Loki.
Then I said, “Let’s get down to business. Why are you
threatening our world?”
“I am not! I was trying to help a friend but then, I,
uh, made a mistake,” he said.
I said, “What did you do?”
“I kind of made the goddess Frigg mad.” Loki
explained.
Then I heard yelling. Vigi came charging out of the
lush bushes, swinging his sword like a crazy man. That’s when
I realized that Vigi was a berserker. A berserker is a viking
that usually wears bear or wolf skins and is a lethal fighter.
Berserkers also go crazy in battle.
“VIGI, WAIT!” I cried, hoping to stop him before it
was too late. Vigi skidded and then stopped. “He doesn’t mean
any harm!”.
Vigi was like, “huh?”. I told Vigi our entire
conversation. “How do you know he is not lying?” Vigi said, “It
could be a trick.”
“I trust him,” I said.
“Fine.” Vigi grumbled. “But I am going to keep an eye
on him.” Then we turned to Loki.
“Do you have a plan?” I asked Loki.
“If we can just get all the vikings together, we could
make our point to Frigg,” Loki said.
Then Vigi said, “Vikings never were a unified group
6
and they never will be.”
“Then I guess it’s just the 3 of us then,” Loki said.
Then I said, “What if we just tried? I mean, we have
a berserker, a god, and me, the sea monster.”
“I guess it might work,” Vigi said.
“Fine,” Loki said, looking like he was not happy, “but
we probably will not make it.”
“We must have hope and faith,” I said. Then I looked
at Loki and flashbacked to him in eagle form. “Loki, where is
the goddess Frigg?” I asked.
“At Prophecy Peak,” replied Loki.
“I have a plan,” I said, “but it will be risky.” I
explained my plan.
“Let’s do it!” Loki and Vigi said in unison.
Here we were, at Prophecy Peak, where the goddess
Frigg changed the future for everyone. I snuck closer to the
top, because, as I had recently found out, I could survive out
of the water and slither like a snake to move.
“Loki, have you shapeshifted into a wolf?” I asked
quietly.
“Yes,” Loki whispered.
“Vigi, are you in position?” I asked.
“Yes sir!” Vigi replied.
“Vigi, be quiet.” I said back.
“Sorry,” he whispered.
“OK, everybody go……Now!” I said. Then we sprang
into action. Vigi started yelling at the top of his lungs,
jumping up and down, and waving his sword around all at the
7
same time. Loki started howling, and I started wailing. Frigga
was so overwhelmed she fell over. Then I took my chance.
“Why are you threatening our world?” I yelled.
“I couldn’t help it!” she shouted, “I just got so mad at
Loki!”
“Stop this now!” Vigi yelled.
“Fine! Just stop making all that racket!” Frigga
screamed. Just like that we all stopped making noise.
`”You mean you’ll really stop?” I asked Frigga.
“Yes,” she said.
“OK, then go back to the other gods and undo what
you’ve done!” I replied. Then, Frigga disappeared in a ray of
light and the world started disappearing. Then we all were
back home. I shivered. “Let’s hope we don’t run into any other
evil gods,” I said. back home, and Lo
“I agree,” said Loki. Just like that, the world was
saved.
