Alex Mercer’s Adventures 1

Chapter 1: TOP SECRET
The incessant beeping of the alarm woke me up. I slapped it until it stopped. I got up, brushed my teeth, washed my face, and went to work like any normal person. Except I wasn’t a normal person. I was a spy.
As I headed to the Pentagon for work, I greeted my neighbors, all of which also worked at the CIA. I strolled inside the building and went to Director James’s office.
“Just wondering, any upcoming missions?” I asked James.
“Let’s see…” James sorted through his files. “Ah, here.”
James handed me a small folder labeled TOP SECRET. I read it. Apparently, another spy had been deep undercover in a suspected terrorist organization. He had sent a message claiming that he suspected that the organization had gotten hold of several nuclear missiles, and could be planning to launch them. Unfortunately, the spy had gone missing a few days ago.
My mission was to infiltrate the organization’s headquarters, find and rescue the missing spy, and find out where the missiles might be launched.
“A CH-47 has already landed at Fairchild Air Force Base, and a MTV (medium tactical vehicle) M1083 is waiting outside to take you there. The CH-47 will fly you near the organization’s headquarters, and you will parachute the rest of the way.”
Chapter 2: The Danger Zone
I climbed out of the MTV and jogged to the helicopter. I got in and heard the rotors start spinning. I asked the pilot how long the flight would be, and he answered 3 hours. I decided to check my backpack. First of all, I had a flashbang (a grenade that emits a flash and a loud bang, when thrown, hence the name “flashbang”), a block of C4 (plastic explosive), and a few electronic chips I would attach to the missiles if they were there. I also had a taser and a silenced pistol with 3 bullets. Other than that, I had a small flashlight and an even smaller disposable phone (aka burner phone). I turned it on, and there was a message on it. It had an email on it, along with a message stating if I needed help or found information, I could text the email, and someone would read the message.
At some point, I must’ve dozed off, because next thing I knew, the rear door was opening. The pilot shouted that I had to jump out NOW, because he couldn’t keep the helicopter flying in this stormy weather for much longer. I swiftly got up and jumped out of the helicopter. The wind gusted, and rain pelted my face. A bolt of lightning cracked near me.
I steered myself down toward the island below me. I could see the massive concrete building on the island which must be the headquarters of the terrorist organization. A sudden gust of wind jerked me to the right, while more wind started pulling me backwards. I was gliding away from the island!
Tilting forward, I willed the wind to push me forward. It worked! The wind began pushing me back to the island. It was then I realized I was coming in too fast! I braced myself.
I crashed through the branches of a tree, the fabric of the parachute being torn by sharp sticks. I quickly released the parachute from my backpack and dropped to the ground. I looked back at the departing helicopter and knew one thing: There was no turning back now. I was in the danger zone…
Chapter 3: The Submarine Pen
I woke up to the sound of a loud shout. Slowly, I got up from the ground and brushed the dirt off my clothes. I looked around, and saw the shout had come from a lone soldier patrolling the wooded area I had landed in. At first, I thought he saw me, but I realized that he was actually looking at my parachute caught in the tree! I quickly scrambled away, careful not to make too much noise.
I emerged from the woods. Observing my surroundings, I spotted a large, hollow concrete box on the beach. Since it was connected to the ocean, it must be a submarine pen! I stealthily sprinted to it, and snuck inside. Inside was a submarine, and several workers were loading missiles on board! I inspected the submarine closer, and realized that it seemed to be a Typhoon-class submarine at first glance, but there were some slight differences on some parts.
I deduced that the organization had probably built a submarine using materials from the black market based on the Typhoon class, but not exactly the same (there are only 7 Typhoon-class submarines in real life, and they are all decommissioned). Next, I turned my attention to the missiles. The missiles were all marked with a symbol containing 3 triangles surrounding a small circle in the middle. That spy’s suspicions were correct! The organization was going to launch nuclear missiles!
Chapter 4: Stowaway
I saw two of the workers loading missiles stop to talk to each other. I listened in, and heard one of them boast about how they had caught a spy in a storage room, and how the spy was on a plane to Washington right now, where he would be interrogated.
“We kidnapped one of their agents, and we’re hiding them right under the Americans’ noses!” snickered the other worker.
I got out my phone, opened it up, and sent a message to the email that the missing agent had been kidnapped and was being held somewhere in Washington. I also texted that the spy’s suspicions were correct and that the organization had indeed gotten hold of several nuclear missiles. I added that they might launch it from a submarine, and that the submarine seemed to be based on a Typhoon-class.
Just then, I heard an alarm start blaring, and I hopped into a rather large crate, pulling the cover on. Through the slits between the wood in the crate, I could see many people running toward the submarine. I saw the hatch get pulled open, and a bunch of people climbed inside. I felt someone pick up the crate I was in, and something rolled around inside. It hit my leg, and I rolled it over. I read the label through the dim light, and to my horror, it was a torpedo!
As soon as the crate was put down, I opened it and got out. I didn’t want to be blown up by a faulty trigger or anything. Thankfully, no one was near me and noticed me. I glanced at the other crates, and saw a few including “Inflatable Boat” and “Food”. Then, I saw a large crate labeled “Spare Supplies”, and I opened it. Thankfully, this one was empty except for a few cans of beans, a bottle of water, and a sleeping bag. I unrolled the sleeping bag, and put my backpack next to it. I heard voices nearby, so I climbed into the crate and put the cover back on.
After a few hours, I opened the crate back up. Once again, no one was around. I closed the crate behind me and set out to explore the submarine.
Chapter 5: The Missiles
It was during the night, so most of the crew was asleep, leaving me free to explore the ship. My goal was to find where the missiles were so I could sabotage them with the electronic chips.
After a while of exploring, I located the room where the missiles were stored. I looked in the room, and a lot of the crew was in there. I decided to wait until the next morning to sabotage the missiles. Then, I went to the torpedo room and put my block of C4 on one of the torpedoes. After that, I got into my crate, wolfed down all the cans of beans, took a few gulps of water, and went to sleep.
The next morning, I got up and hit my head on the roof of the crate. I could hear lively chatter outside, and deduced that it was probably breakfast. I heard the words “missile”, “blow up”, and “today”. They were going to launch the missiles today! I had to get to the missiles. I peeked out of my crate. They were already loading in the missiles! I took a deep breath, and took out my C4 remote. I pressed the detonate button.
Chapter 6: Doomsday
There was a massive boom as the whole front of the submarine exploded. The whole ship rocked, and I heard alarms. I put on my backpack and jumped out of the crate. I shifted around frantically until I found what I was looking for. The inflatable boat.
I carried it on my back, using it to cover up most of my figure so I would be mistaken for a crew member about to evacuate. I quickly got up onto the deck and inflated the inflatable boat, leaving it there on the deck. I saw a massive wave, and I ducked back into the submarine, sealing the hatch.
Once I was sure the wave had passed, I opened the hatch back up. To my relief, the inflatable boat hadn’t washed away and had stayed in the same spot. I was about to get on the boat, when I heard a whirring sound. I looked behind me, and saw that the missile silo hatches had opened, and in some sort of last ditch attempt, the terrorists were going to launch the missiles!
I dashed to the missiles and pulled out the electronic chips. I quickly attached one to each missile, before running back to the inflatable dinghy. By then, the captain was out on deck and was shouting down the hatch to abandon ship. One of the crew members remarked that he hadn’t seen me before, and the rest of the crew looked at me in suspicion. One of them realized that I wasn’t wearing a uniform, and they charged at me!
I got out my flashbang and threw it into the crowd, knocking out about half of them. However, the other half was out of the flashbang’s range, and continued charging at me. I reached for my taser, and realized I had left it in the submarine! I got out my silenced pistol, took off the silencer, and fired into the air. The submarine crew started running away from me, with a few of them going back into the submarine to get their weapons.
I took that as an opportunity to hop on the boat and speed away. I looked back, watching the missiles launch into the sky. I saw the small chips I had planted on the missiles all blink red at the same time and short circuit the missiles. The nuclear missiles dropped out of the sky and sunk down into the ocean.
Chapter 7: Crisis Averted
“Another mission. Well done!” James commented.
I was surprised I had made it through that one alive.
“Say, where were those terrorists going to actually launch those missiles to?”, I asked James.
“A Navy frigate located the sinking submarine. They took the crew onboard into custody, and a few SEALs raided their headquarters. Their leader was captured, and the terrorist organization has disbanded. A Spec-Ops team located the missing agent tied to a chair in an overgrown parking lot. The agent is currently in the hospital recovering. Also, The SEALs found out the terrorists’ plan. They were going to launch missiles at powerful countries to blame it on the US to start World War 3! Good thing you were there to stop them!”James replied.
“Not a very well thought out plan.” I joked (I mean, there is literally no evidence that America would have launched the nukes. Typhoons are Russian submarines! And only a terrorist organization claims they launched missiles, which would obviously be fake).
“By the way, POTUS (President of the United States) wants to thank you personally! You’ll have a meeting with him in the White House tomorrow!”
Chapter 8: Mission Completed
The next day, I got dressed in my best suit and made sure I was sparkling clean. I rented a cab and got to the White House right on time! At the entrance, a Secret Service agent stopped me.
“Name and purpose?” the agent asked.
“Alex Mercer. CIA.”
I flashed my CIA badge at him and he let me inside. I strolled inside the Oval Office. The president greeted me.
“Alex. A nuclear attack was almost launched, and the results would’ve been catastrophic. You stopped it, so I am thanking you personally. However, there is a very important matter at hand. We found the agent, and he got out of the hospital today. However, he has been blabbering about how the terrorists would come after him and how they would get revenge on us. I need you to investigate this. The organization may not have completely disbanded. You are dismissed.”
I got up and walked out of the White House. I checked my phone, and there was a new message on it.
