Gameknight999 and the Ancient City
As Tommy Sylvain, Gameknight999, stared at his monitor screen, he thought about Crafter. He missed not only Crafter, but also the other villagers he had known so long ago. He turned on his PC and monitors and saw the wait time for updating Minecraft.
“THREE HOURS!!!” he bellowed in astonishment and almost fell out of his $200 gaming chair. The chair meant quite a lot to him. His grandfather had given it to him last christmas; it was one of a kind. His grandpa had passed away just two weeks ago, June 13th 2022; he had died of cancer.
“Three hours.” Tommy whispered. (He hadn’t played minecraft in nearly five years so it kinda made sense that it was going to take three hours to update so far ahead from previous times.) “What am I going to do for the next three hours?” he asked himself. He thought about what could be in the update, so he went onto YouTube and researched what was in the game now. During his research, he heard a Ba-ding! and knew that the update had finished. He logged in to minecraft and spawned in. After killing some sheep for wool and food, he got some wood by punching a tree with his fist. He then made a crafting table and a bed. Turning on his father’s digitizer, he hoped that no one heard the loud buzzing coming from the basement. Just then, a blazing bright red beam shot out of the machine and on to Tommy. Just after that, he felt a gentle breeze blowing in his hair. He saw that he had the wood he mined just seconds ago in his hands.
“Ah, how good it feels to be back.” Gameknight999 announced. He got to work making a pickaxe. In the distance, he could see the gaping mouth of a cave on a hillside. He traveled to the cave and started the spelunking adventure. He mined enough stone for a furnace and a full set of stone tools. Then, continuing deeper into the cave, he found some raw iron ore. With his recently crafted stone pickaxe he mined the precious early game ore. With the freshly crafted furnace, he smelted the iron ore into ingots and crafted an iron pickaxe and a bucket. He quickly retreated out of the small cave when he saw a green, hissing, shadowy figure emerging from the shadowy depths of the cave. As soon as he had seen the mysterious figure, he knew that it was a creeper, which is basically a ticking time bomb.
“Whew, that was a close one.” Gameknight999 remarked.
He knew a smart little technique for killing creepers. He ran into the cave and slashed at the vile entity with his pickaxe, then quickly retreated. Seconds later he slashed and retreated again. He continued this technique until he had killed the creeper. He collected his items, including the gunpowder, and headed up to the surface to fill his bucket with water and found a hill. Then, he dug straight down until he fell into a giant cavern. He fell for what felt like 100,000 blocks, before noticing the hard, solidified ground rapidly approaching. He quickly placed the water from his bucket below him before he touched the ground to take advantage of the skill he had practiced since he started playing minecraft; a water bucket MLG clutch. He had found an ancient city. While he was exploring the ancient city, he noticed an ominous structure. He walked over to the structure and heard a shriek, and knew that meant he needed to crouch. If he heard that same shriek two more times, he would summon a Warden. He knew that he couldn’t possibly take on a Warden at this time since he didn’t even have a weapon or armor. He took out his pickaxe and mined the sculk shrieker. He then opened the chest next to him and he couldn’t believe his eyes; he had found an Enchanted Golden Apple. He opened more chests and found enchanted diamond armor and tools as well as a sword. He found two more Enchanted Golden Apples and when he opened the next chest, he summoned a Warden. He ran to where he had dropped down into the massive cavern and quickly pillared up to the surface.
He knew what he had to do next. He started killing cows as a food source and set off on an everlasting journey to find Crafter and his village. Minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, days turned to weeks, and weeks to months, but still no sign of a village. Finally, after a year’s worth of travel, he saw a familiar shape on the horizon; he had found a village.
“CRAFTER!!! ARE YOU THERE?!?!?!?!” Gameknight999 hollered into the quiet distance, but no response came. He went up to every villager and asked if they knew where Crafter was. The only response from every villager was “HRRRE.” Then the villagers started off in the same direction. Gameknight999 followed them. When he saw a familiar face, Monett113, his sister he had an infinite amount of questions. Monett113 was talking to someone, another person he recognized.
“Crafter!” Gameknight999 boomed. “Yes it’s me, Gameknight999.” Crafter replied. “Good, because I have something urgent to tell you.” “Let me guess.” Crafter said, “There’s a Warden in an ancient city underground?” he asked Gameknight999. “H-how’d you know?” Gameknight999 stuttered. “Every time the game updates, we get a message about it, just like you do.” Crafter replied. “Well, anyways, it’s good to finally see each others’ faces again,” Crafter continued. “It really is,” Gameknight agreed. “I see that you got geared up pretty fast,” Crafter continued on. “Yeah, and also, look at this beauty.” He said he pulled out one of the Enchanted Golden Apples that he had found whilst looting the ancient city. “How did you find that?” Crafter asked, curious to know. “I was digging straight down, which you should never do, and fell into an ancient city, luckily I had my water bucket on hand. I would have died from fall damage if I hadn’t.” Gameknight999 explained. “Well, we gotta get you some netherite.” Crafter implied. “Netherite? What’s netherite?” Gameknight999 asked. “Ahh right, I forgot that you hadn’t played Minecraft in nearly five years.” Crafter remembered. “Netherite is a new material that is obtained in the nether, which your mind is going to be blown about. Also, don’t use a sword unless your opponent has a shield.” Crafter suggested. “Use an axe instead.” Crafter continued. “You’ll also need a bow for the nearly impossible task.” Crafter stated. “Come with me to our village Fletcher to get yourself a bow and arrows. Once we’ve done that, we will go to the Clerk and get the ingredients for potions to make instant damage arrows. Afterwards, we’ll make a nether portal and get you some netherite. After that, we’ll go to the Weaponsmith’s smithing table to upgrade your weapons and armor to netherite. Then we’ll get all villagers that can fight geared up with full netherite weapons, tools, and armor. Then we will accompany you on your journey to the ancient city and help you slay the Warden.” Gameknight999 liked the sound of help with fighting the Warden. He got to work gathering netherite, potions, a bow and arrows. Finally, Crafter rang the bell and all the villagers came running for a village meeting. Crafter announced that all villagers that could fight were to gather their weapons and meet at the edge of the forest.
“Do you know how to get to the ancient city?” Crafter asked. “No, but I know the direction.” Gameknight999 replied. “When we’re there we’ll search the area.” Crafter said “Men! It is time to face the Warden! Grab your armor, weapons, shield, and tools!” He bellowed across the outskirts of the village. The clanking of shields, weapons, and armor filled the air as the village warriors came to Gameknight999’s side as Crafter went to fetch his gear. Once Crafter had returned from his house, he foretold that this battle wasn’t going to be easy. “The Warden is the hardest boss in Minecraft to defeat.” Crafter continued. He asked Gameknight999 which direction the ancient city was in.
“East from here” Gameknight999, the Great Legend of Minecraft announced. And so off they set, on the daring journey to slay the great Warden of the ancient city below the surface. They traveled east until they found a mountain that made them seem like molecules.
“Ok, we’ll dig here.” Gameknight999 announced. “But sir.” one of the villagers spoke from the mob of villagers. “Yes?” Gamgknight999 responded, “We aren’t at the hole you previously dug.” the villager continued. “Mountains and tall hills have a high chance of having an ancient city below.” Gameknight999 calmly explained. “Grab your shovels and dig!” Crafter hollered. Once they had reached the ancient city, they started quietly looting the place until one of them yelled in excitement, “Look what I found!” “Keep it down!” Crafter scolded in a whispering rage. “We don’t want a fight just yet.” Crafter explained. “We need to quietly search the area for any chests that may have resources that we can use.” All of the villagers then nodded their heads in agreement. Once they were ready for a fight, they activated the Sculk Shriekers and out crawled the Warden. “Prepare your items!” Crafter bellowed, half excited, half worried. “Attack!” Crafter bellowed. After several hours of hacking and slashing at the gigantic beast, Gameknight999 thought he would pass out as the Warden charged toward him and slashed at him with an angry fist, making a sizable gash in his side. Just minutes later the beast had been slain and as the Warden died, a blinding white spherical orb appeared where the Warden had died, and Gamenight999 was sucked in.
As Tommy woke up on a soft bed, he wondered what happened and why he had such a bad headache. He looked around and realized that he was in a hospital, laying down on a bed in the real world, not in Minecraft. He had done it! He was out of Minecraft and the curse that he had, had been lifted. He hadn’t known about the curse though. Now all he had to do is say that he wanted to go home when he was in Minecraft and poof!! he would be back in his chair. His worried parents rushed into the room when they heard him grunting and groaning. Tommy felt drowsy and also incredibly injured, especially in the side. When he pulled up his shirt and looked, he had a giant bandage along his side. When he pulled off the bandage, he had a flash of something he remembered of someone blocky calling to him.
“CRAFTER!!!” He screamed, sweating like a pig. “Who’s Crafter?” his mom asked him, setting down beside him. “No one.” Tommy replied. “I need to get to my computer, Now!” Tommy said. “Why, what’s wrong?” his mom asked. “Just that my computer is going to overheat and burn the house down, Tommy lied. He needed to destroy the ancient city and rescue the villagers. “We’ll take care of that, you need to rest.” his mom reasoned. “I’m coming with you.” Tommy demanded. “HAVE YOU SEEN THE WOUND ON YOUR SIDE!?!?!” his mom yelled at the top of her lungs. “ I’m fine mom, I’m 18 now, you don’t need to worry about me anymore.” His mom gave in and, reluctantly, drove him home. When they got to the door, Tommy bolted up the stairs, limping with each step. He quickly logged on and helped the villagers out of the cavern. Once they were a safe distance away, he switched to creative mode and blew the ancient city to smithereens.
