The Fighting Game
One day on a crisp Saturday morning, John and his baseball team
were practicing baseball. John’s coach threw a very high ball then
smack! It hit him in the face! His nose was gushing out blood. All 3 of
his coaches ran over to take care of him.
2 weeks later
‘Twas the night before the game and John’s team Jacksonville was
playing the best team, the Black Webs. Everyone had butterflies in their
stomach they were playing the team with the best pitcher in the league.
The practice before the game everyone had a lump in their throat. No one
spoke. Then the coach said that John’s team was batting first. Everyone’s
mouths dropped. No one dared to say a word. John’s team went into the
dugout and sat on the bench.
The Jacksonville team came out on the field. The pitcher on the other
team, named Zank, was pitching. He threw his first pitch, and it looked like
it went 80 mph. The very first batter on the Jacksonville team, which is
John’s team, steps on deck. Jeff, which is John’s teammate, steps in the
batters box. Zank threw the 2nd pitch. The ball hit the catcher’s glove with
a smack. Jeff did not even see the ball because Zank threw it so fast. The
catcher threw it back to Zank. He wound up again and then threw it as
hard as he could. Jeff swung the bat weakly. The ball made contact with
the bat. It made the bat vibrate so hard. The ball rolled to shortstop, but
before Jeff even had a chance to run, Zank Jr., which is the shortstop for
the Black Webs, threw the ball to first base.
After a few innings the score was Black Webs with 7 and Jacksonvill
0. It was the top of the 8th inning and John was batting. He was the last
batter because the ball hit him in the face so now he is super scared of the
ball. Zank threw the first pitch. Surprisingly it was a ball. He wound up for
another pitch. “STRIKE!” the umpire yelled.
The catcher threw the ball back to Zank. He wound up for the 2nd
time, and it was another ball. This time Zank looked really mad. The
catcher got the ball back to the pitcher. Zank threw the ball as hard as he
could. John swung the bat as hard as he could. Then with a giant SMACK!,
the ball went flying into the outfield. Everyone on his team was cheering.
The outfielder on Zank’s team was running after the ball. John was
running the bases as fast as he could. John made it home before the
outfielder even was close to the ball.
At the 9th inning Zank pitched the ball but ever since John, the worst
hitter on Jacksonville, was now the best. And now the best pitcher on the
Black Web’s team was now the worst pitcher ever! From that day on John’s
team won every game and Zank’s team lost every game.
