Gameknight slowly awoke from his induced trance. All around him, a battle insued. But not just any battle. Everything was… blocky. Like he was in… no… it couldn’t be… Gameknight was in… Minecraft! Monsters and NPCs called villagers fought, desperately trying to eradicate the other race. But, NPCs couldn’t fight, could they? Their arms were stuck together. They weren’t physically able to pick up a sword and kill things… Gameknight was so confused. He couldn’t remember anything about what he had done before he woke up in the battlefield. Where were his parents? His sister? His house? Gameknight tried to get away from the warring entities, but a swarm of zombies enveloped him. “We’ve got you now, User-that-is-not-a-user.” One growled in a scruffy voice.
“User-that-is-not-a-user?” Gameknight said, puzzled. He didn’t even know zombies could talk. The emerald monster cocked his head, like he wasn’t sure what Gameknight said. Suddenly, as the zombies moved in for the kill, an NPC with brilliant red hair rode forth on a black horse, shooting them with an enchanted bow and arrow and knocking them away from Gameknight. She grabbed his arm and swung him up onto the horse with her, and she drove it to ride away from the zombies.
“Who are you? What happened? Where’s my family?” Gameknight asked with concern. The woman turned around, splashing her red curls into his face.
“This isn’t the time for jokes, Gameknight. You know full well what’s happening. Monsters are attacking this village, and I for one want to do something about it.” She stopped her horse for a second and shot at monsters that got too close.
“I’m not joking. I’ve never seen you before in my life. And… just to be sure… we are in Minecraft, right?” The NPC stopped shooting things with her bow, and faced Gameknight again.
“Are you okay? It’s me, Hunter. If this is a trick, I swear, I’ll…” Hunter didn’t finish her sentence. A slime had bounced up and scared the horse. It whinnied with terror and bolted, Hunter and Gameknight still riding it. She tried to control it, but they got thrown off. Gameknight landed face-first in the dirt, therefore letting Hunter fall on top of him.
“Gurt urf urv mer!” Gameknight yelled, not being able to speak correctly. Hunter did, and he rolled over. Another NPC came over and started to talk to them. A child, probably no older than Gameknight in the real world.
“You two alright?” He asked.
“We’re fine, but Gameknight here can’t to seem to remember anything.” The new villager looked at Gameknight quizzically, but didn’t get the chance to speak. Someone… or something… roared. In it was instilled a hatred for all things, and that included Gameknight. A monstrosity of a zombie marched through his battling brethren and straight towards the group.
“Who… who is… that?!” Gameknight said, panicking.
“Xa-Tul, and he hates you. What happened, Gameknight?” The child answered. The enormous zombie walked up and unsheathed a massive golden sword.
“You’re goin’ down, User-that-is-not-a-user. Xa-Tul will destroy you!” With that, he swung his sword. Hunter pulled Gameknigt out of he say just in time.
“Don’t just stand there! Attack him!” Hunter yelled while shooting Xa-Tul.
“With what?!” Gameknight yelled back.
“YOUR SWORD!” Hunter screamed. Gameknight looked at his hands, and realized he had been holding a diamond sword the whole time. He gripped it with two hands and bravely swung twice at the huge zombie, not ully knowing what he was doing. It didn’t even make a dent. Xa-Tul turned around and smacked Gameknight full on in the face. He flew backwards and landed next to a pile of zombie flesh and XP. He slowly got up.
“Ow…” He said offhandedly. “That hurt.” He looked up, and could’ve sworn he saw a flash of teleportation next to Xa-Tul’s ear. The zombie roared a,
“Retreat!” and started running away. All the monsters followed. Soon, it was just the NPCs standing on the battle torn field. One yelled out,
“Did we win?” Hunter ignored him and stormed straight for Gameknight.
“What was that?!” She demanded.
“What was what?” Gameknight asked.
“What happened to you?! It was like, all of a sudden you forgot who you are.” Gameknight just shrugged. The child NPC reluctantly walked up to him and asked,
“Gameknight, do you remember me?” He shook his head. Hunter and the kid looked at each other, like something was seriously wrong.
“What? What did I do?” Gameknigt asked, getting impatient.
“It’s just… well…” The child was reluctant to speak.
“Crafter here is your best friend. And you don’t recognize him… or me…” Hunter said quietly.
“I’m sorry guys, but I’ve never seen you before.” Hunter snapped.
“Yes you have, remember? We went to the Nether to battle Malacoda and save my sister, we went to the End to battle the Enderman Dragon to get it’s egg, we even went to Zombie Town to save your sister! Don’t you remember any of that? You idiot! You freakin’ saved Minecraft!” Hunter turned away, and took a deep breath. Gameknight looked at Crafter, completely confused. He walked closer to Gameknight, and reached up high to put his small hands on his shoulders.
“Gameknight, I think you have amnesia.” Crafter said gravely.
