Before we begin,

Hello, everyone! This is a short story, this book will be about 6-7 long pages (if not more!) as of writing this. (Wait, are you even reading this!?) What is this book, you ask? This is a book of fiction, confusion, hope, and even a hint of Minecraft. Credit to Mojang for all the Minecraft in this story. Chapter 5 also gets big credit to Mark Cheverton, and he also gets a shoutout for letting me post my story on his website. One more thing: there is a spoiler for a server I’m planning on making in chapter 6…

So, here it is…

Life when Upside-Down

By Henry M.

Chapter 1

I was done playing on my Xbox. Since it was late, I decided to go to bed. I opened my eyes, and everything was upside-down!

Suddenly, I remembered when I was playing Minecraft™; I was building everything upside-down. I even used a mod to generate the world, screen, entities, and gravity upside-down. “Wonder if that had anything to do with it”, I thought.

I went outside into the front yard. “WHA!??!?” I said when I was standing in the sky. For some reason, the earth wasn’t flipped. I was simply standing in the sky, just enough that I thought that maybe I could climb on the roof of a home and touch the earth. I ran back inside, trying to get my switch. I hoped that this all was a dream, or that when I signed into my Xbox account on my switch, I could delete the mod, and fix the world.

But unfortunately, it didn’t work. I assumed that I was simply going to have to learn to live like this.

Chapter 2

I decided to get onto my phone. I wanted to video-chat my cousin to see if they were flipped, too.

Beep

“Hey, Nate! How’s it going over on your end?”

“Oh, hi Henry. It’s fine, but…”

“Nate, I need you to tell me something. It’s pretty important.”

“Hit me.”

“Is your house… flipped? And when you go outside, do you find yourself standing in the sky?”

“Yeah, actually. The whole neighborhood’s pretty freaked out.”

“Oh yeah, mine too.” I said.

“But the real question is, why? Like, why is it all flipped?”

“Good question. I’m trying to find that out and how to fix the universe.”

“Okay, Henry. I got to go now. The neighbors like cats. Cats calm them down. And I have three.”

“Oh, okay. Bye, Nate.”

‘’Bye, Henry’’

Beep

Chapter 3

I decided to go outside for some fresh, flipped air. (I also wanted to climb the roof and touch the ground) As I exited my home (House number 44), I thought about what would happen if I held a handful of dirt. Then I thought about the experiments I could do with un-flipped dirt. As I touched the dirt, I felt a tingling sensation, like when your arm falls asleep, and I was suddenly standing on the ground.

Like, the actual ground.

“waaaaaaaaa???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????”

Instinctively, I immediately touched the roof of house #44. My hand tingled again, and I was standing on my flipped roof.

“waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?????????????????????????????????????????????????”

I had 125 people staring at me then, and I knew that they wanted to know what was going on.

I did, too.

Little did we know, we were about to unravel… a secret the universe was hiding from us since the first trillionth of a second. I still wanted to try and conduct dirt experiments, but I didn’t know what kinds of experiments to conduct just yet. (Also, the next chapter is the book’s shortest chapter for if your teacher says you have to read a chapter before going out to recess.)

Chapter 4

Upside-down Earth is weird.

Chapter 5

I logged into Minecraft again, just for fun. It said (look carefully) “Minceraft”. I was amazed, because the odds of that happening are unheard of. So I took a screenshot. I spawned in and tested out my new laptop. The WASD controls worked like a charm! Suddenly, I passed out. A few moments later, all I could hear were moos, clicks, oinks, and sizzling… oh my… Wait-sizzling!?

BOOM!!!

Next thing I knew, I was higher than this blocky tree in front of me… wait…BLOCKY!? I must be very lucky, because I landed on top of the tree and felt no pain. Well, except for the pain from the creeper explosion. Instinctively, I reached for my phone. I wanted to call 911, but I couldn’t feel it. I realized that I was in Minecraft, and I punched through the tree trunk. I knew that buying all those Gameknight999 books with my $50 allowance (that I got every other month) would come in handy someday! Thank you, Mark Cheverton! (Please get at least 1 Gameknight999 book, they’re AMAZING.)

I ran to the nearest village, and found all of their hands apart. I knew this probably was not the server that the User-that-is-not-a-user was always on, because it was night, and I did not see many zombies, maybe twenty. (Also, there was no crazy terrain.) I ran into the village watchtower, and immediately started punching a very specific cobblestone block. In maybe thirty seconds, the secret tunnel appeared. I had a couple cobblestone blocks from the creeper, so I sealed up the hole, and made my way to the crafting chamber. With a sword and a pickaxe, I got out of the secret tunnel, charged towards the mob of mobs, swinging my sword and pick around like a car doing doughnuts. When all the zombies were killed, I saw some chickens behind a cluster of tall spruces, and I said, “PaulSoaresjr was right about spy-chickens’ existence.” I was at half a heart, and then a skeleton shot me as I threw my sword at it and killed it. I woke up in front of my computer and went to bed, because THAT WAS WEIRD.

The next day, my family decided for us to go on a trip to Niagara Falls in Canada. I was so excited that I almost forgot to bring my laptop and switch. “Can’t forget that!” I said to myself. When we were in the car, I had everything I needed in my backpack: my Nintendo switch and its cord, my laptop and its power cord, my headphones, and a duffle bag full of movies, games, and snacks. I was ready. We left, and somehow, the satellites were still able to give an accurate GPS map. I still don’t know how those were in space. As I was in the car, I looked up through the sunroof, and marveled at the beautiful scenery. There was an entire forest of ashen trees, apple trees, oak, warm spruce, acacia, you name it; it was there. There were also bushes with honeysuckle flowers. Honeysuckle flowers have this little thing inside them that looks like their stem but white, and you can pull it out to reveal the nectar which you can then suck off. I also really like how you can still see everything connected to the ground when upside-down. I was also wondering why the trees and flowers didn’t get flipped. All the peacefulness of this car trip wore me out, so I drank some water, and took a nap.

Chapter 6

When I woke up, I was in a car wash. I waited 30 minutes (the amount of time you should wait after waking up to use electronics), and got to work. I started making a new map, called ‘The obsidian vault’. There would be some minigames, like PVP and Greifsoblema. I started making the lobby, a giant Minecraft obsidian vault. You would spawn in one of many glass chambers a couple hundred blocks away, looking at the dark cube of security, and then it would activate a piston 5 seconds after. You would fall into a deep hole, and be teleported high above the cube of obsidian and stone (stone for the handle). Then you would fall through a 4×4 hole and be in the lobby.

As I built everything, I wondered what it would be like if the world was upside-down. Then I looked up, and remembered I was living what I just wondered. “Silly me” I thought. I was very curious as to why all of this happened. Suddenly, we stopped. There was a gas station next to the car, and we went inside. I went to the bathroom, washed my hands, and got some Kit-Kats. When I got back in the car, we were full on gas, and we left. I ate my Kit-Kats and played Minecraft.

Suddenly, we hit a speed bump and started slowing down. I knew that our suspension or something was damaged, because this was not normal. Then, I jerked forward very fast. Someone crashed into us. I got out afterwards, and our car was almost destroyed! We went into a nearby store. It had a lot of pure elements from the periodic table. Suddenly, there was an explosion, and I was SO GLAD I got all my stuff out of our car! A bunch of the elements fell down and collided into each other, and then I was flying toward a portal. Suddenly, I was in a very dark place.

Chapter 7

“Hello?” I said. Then, as if on cue, the whole place lit up. It looked like a very big room, made of incredibly high-tech devices. There was a path going forward. I walked along it. Then, I emerged in a room that had a big computer in it. A holographic image appeared, and it said “Welcome to the center of the universe, where all of the fabrics of the entire universe bind together. The computer in front of you can be reprogrammed using any type of code to change the laws of physics.”

I walked over and reviewed the code. At one part it said: ‘When:GravityActive=Yes,Gravity=Down’ This is what I was looking for. I changed Down to Up. Then, I could tell that everything on Earth was set upright. “Now, I just need to find a way back to Earth” I thought. Then, there was an alarm. The hologram said “Warning, code changed dramatically, vaporizing in 5 minutes. Get to escape portal now. Directions, go straight ahead, then take a left, and then take last right.” “I GOTTA GO!” I said. I ran as fast as I could, and took a left. I was running for a while, then I heard “Escape portal after the next room, vaporization in 1 minute.” I ran past the next room and ran into the portal room. I set the portal to the store where the other portal was, and the hologram said “Vaporization in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…” I leaped into the portal.

BRAKAKABOOOM!!!

Chapter 8

I opened my eyes. I saw a shelf in front of me, and some more shelves around me. I was alive! My mom and dad found me, and we went to the car dealership next door. To everyone’s surprise, we were all on the ground! I touched, smelled, and even tasted the dirt. It tasted like dirt and not clouds! Everything was back to normal.

We went to the dealership, used our car insurance, got a new car, and went home. Everything that has happened this past week made me tired. I took a nap. Then, I woke up to the sound of a million cheers. I got out, and everyone from the city was here to congratulate me for fixing the universe!  The president of the United States was here, too!  The President gave me a medal that said: “Award of the person who saved the world” and was signed by every president in the world! It was pretty big. Everyone here wanted to give me gifts and thanks, and I got interviewed by the news! This was the best week ever. We even got to live in the White House!
