An NPC Hero
By Hosanna B

Chapter 1

She was lost- nothing left of her soal. She had not one bit of hope left. The only friend she had was herself… and ‘herself’ was about to die. A large, lanky Enderman raised an arm, as Rebecca took in the last moments of her life, and prepared to die.
But, as she stood there, quivering, she felt the presence loom over her, then leave. What is going on? She wondered. She looked up nerveless.
What she saw changed her life….. forever. The Enderman was battling a zombie. Zombie! Otherwise being shocked and in awe, still, Rebecca was horrified. Running for her life, Rebecca headed twords her hidey-hole. It was a large dirt hut, really. She broke the dirt and threw herself in.
Only a few minutes after she had replaced the dirt blocks, she herd moaning, like agony and pain, like a sorrow for life. Zombies! Then, glancing around, there was no door, so they couldn’t get in. unless… the Enderman! He could let them through! In panic, Rebecca strained her ears…. There was no chuckle, the eerie laugh of an Enderman seeming miles of. Then… she herd it.
An Enderman.
Only about 5 blocks away.
4…
3…
Rebecca panicked.
2…
1….
It was at her house.

Rebecca screamed. But, oddly enough, she heard painful sounds of zombies dieing, a sound that sent chills down her spine.

Then, Rebecca realized something; The Enderman was on her side.
Why? She did not know, but she was to scared to think more about it. She slumped in the corner of her little hut. After a few moments, she heard only the faint moaning of Zombies, boing-boing of slimes, a whizzes of the bow that skeleton held. She sighed and trudged to her bed. then she slept.
……
When Rebecca awoke, she looked around her. The dirt of her for-now home was light, her torches casting a wonderful glow. The young villager got up. She ran over to one side of her hide-out and broke two dirt blocks. The sun was shining. Rebecca stepped out. She looked around cautiously. No monsters. Rebecca quickly stepped back onto her den, then crafted a book with some loot she’d just found. Stepping back into the woods she was in, she flipped through the dairy she just crafted. Then she wrote this here…. That there…. Then, when she was don, read:

Dear diary,
Today I just made you. I wish I had made you back in my own village, but I am lost in a forest far from Father and mother’s house. And my house. I miss the sweet smell of the village. My real name is Farmer, but Everyone calls each other names like ‘Nellie’, and ‘Amanda’ and…. Well… Rebecca. I miss my old home. Well, I’ve gotta go get some more stone. Well then, Good bye, I guess.
– Rebecca (Farmer)

Closing her book, Rebecca ran of to mine.

Chapter 2

The mines were filled with monsters. What is happening? Thought Rebecca. Last time I came here, there were only 2 or 3 mobs! Traveling downwards, Rebecca came across some iron ore. She quickly mined it with her stone pickax, then ran back up to her hidey-hole to smelt it. After the ore was smelted into an iron bar, Rebecca put it in her chest. Then she set out to mine some more coal.

While mining, Rebecca was surprised to see that all the mobs were gone!!! – strange.
Rebecca found 10 blocks of coal, then mined them. After she had put them in her chest back at her hidey-hole, she thought about the night before. Had it been a dream? No, she wasn’t a dream-walker. Rebecca shook her head, but the thought lingered. Why had it happened? But what really conserved her was, in fact, why had the Enderman helped her? Struggling with her thoughts, she suddenly realized something: The Enderman had killed the mobs in her mine after she went back inside to smelt her bars!
Why was the Enderman helping her?
Then she got up and went hunting. But the Enderman was nowhere to be seen. Is he hiding from me? she wondered. Was he? She did not know. But this was definitely strange.
… …
Two black eyes watched as Rebecca sowed some wheat seeds. After all, she knew how to farm, and food was a must.  She had been killing the game, but usually, only 1 or 2 animals would show themselves every now and then. She knew this wouldn’t hold out.  As she worked, she thought about her village. She had never really fit in. She had always been an in-the-shadows girl. No one had ever really noticed her, but now…… She didn’t know. Then she remembered her library. that’s where she had meant her first and only friend. Her name was Abigail. As Rebecca thought of her friend, she remembered a legend…. About some hero…. It was at the back of her mind…. Gaah! She couldn’t remember. Rebecca sighed. Then she heard a rustle in the leaves. Was someone there? Oh, no! She couldn’t let any users hear her, nor know that she could create a house and a farm. Her friend and she had played an experiment when they were young;

“Abigail, do you ever wonder what would happen if you break a crafting table while someone is crafting?” Asked Rebecca.
“Actually….. yes. let’s try it!” said Abigail. So Rebecca started crafting and Abigail had it break. (She was a red stone engineer) Then, Rebecca, pulling back her hands, cried out. Her hand were free! Then Rebecca did the same to Abigail, and they had showed their parents. Vexed, Abigail’s mother hit Abigail and said to Rebecca’s mom, “Do. Not. LET THEM PLAY TOGETHER!!!!!!” And from then on, Rebecca had to sneak out at night just to see Alice. (A skill Rebecca was very talented in.)

And now she had free hands. Rebecca suddenly realized it looked like a user’s house, so she said ‘Hmm…. Hmm…’ like most users (Including you, reader) would always hear. However, not one sound came from the woods.  Strange… thought the very confused villager. Of course! It had to have been that Enderman! Angry that it kept spying her, and filled with disbelief, young Rebecca Looked around the perimeter of her for-now home, but saw nothing. Sighing, Rebecca headed back. She was covered head-to-toe in dirt and dust and sawdust. Scars covered her neck and her chest. Her hair was tangled and matted.  But when she was home, she found herself face-to-face with a large, black nightmare with two, glowing purple eyes.
The Enderman.

Chapter 3

Rebecca stood there, not taking a single breath, Shaking wildly. The Enderman towered over her, like an evil castle in a nightmare. Rebecca was motionless, as if even slightly above quivering wildly, moving a muscle would trigger it to attack. Rebecca didn’t mean to, but her eyes were locked on his. And then, the Enderman raised an arm.
Rebecca shrieked. She closed her eyes. So this was the end.

It seemed to happen all in slow motion. The Enderman raising his arm, her curling up and waiting to die, and then looking up one more time to see him attacking a zombie. Rebecca nearly passed out. When the Enderman finished landing his blows on the now-dead zombie, he turned back to her.

“What?” He asked, clearly irritated. Rebecca tried to move, to speak, but she was paralyzed in fear, and her mouth did not cooperate. But the Enderman, even still, did not move to harm her.  Then he talked.

“I know, I know. I’m an Enderman and you don’t want to see me. that’s why I tried to stay hidden, but I knew I couldn’t forever.” Then he looked up, looked straight into Rebecca’s fearful eyes. “There’s a reason I hung around, though. Rebecca, as hard as it is to say and hear….. I need you. Your special, and… I need you.” he seemed somewhat… sad.

Rebecca looked astounded. Her? Special? Needed by and ENDERMAN? Rebecca was speechless.
“M-M-ME?!” she sputtered.
“Yes,” said the Enderman, looking slightly embarrassed. And if you have ever seen an ENDERMAN blush, It is an extremely weird yet amazing sight.

“But-but I’m just a teen villager who’s lost!” Said Rebecca, suddenly horrified of what was happening. She suddenly felt as if all the oxygen had flied from the air. She blinked back tears… not of sadness though, but of fear.

“well…” said the Enderman, thinking of how to answer. “It’s a long story.” he said, finally, “do… you have time?” Rebecca’s face clouded.

“Umm… I have, like, only 24 HOURS of time to spare at least. What, you think I was BUSY?” The Enderman looked quite agitated, but kept silent.
Then started the story.

“CHASER, a griever, started as an old rumor in village number 38. his fame quickly grew, though, throughout villages. 49, 187, 68, 93, 42, 63, 901, 706, 403, 201, 11, 15, and 222 were the first to know after that. Soon, half of all Minecraft servers everywhere knew, including this one.  But villagers all over have gone missing, seen strange things, acted weird… some even claimed that about 23 villagers have gone crazy. CHASER’s reputation grew…. And grew…. And grew…. Now I’ve seen him. he’s big. Biggest user you’d ever saw. He has long, pale yellow skin, blood splashed around on it. His cloths are torn, and he has no server thread.. His muscles are HUGE and he’s COVERED in dark brown hair, and his eyes glow red. Intill I saw those eyes, I thought he might be the-user-that-is-not-a-user that are in those old books and things. I don’t particularly LIKE that I am not a ‘good guy’, but I guess most of my kind don’t have a good heart.  Maybe that’s why I was kicked out….”

Rebecca couldn’t help but feel sorry for the Enderman. She also couldn’t help but notice how low his voice was. For an Enderman, anyway. He sounded a LOT like Roger, Rebecca’s older, 20 year-old brother. She remembered how she used to look up to him ages 3-12….

“Anyway.. sorry about that!” the Enderman’s words and chuckle (Not the normal Enderman chuckle.. more of a human chuckle.) brought Rebecca back to the present.

He then finished his story with a Enderman smile. (Quite creepy, actually…. Also somewhat evil, but not this Enderman’s however…)

“Well, I researched on him, and realized in order to defeat him,  you have to have a potion of slowness and a diamond sword. With the potion, you slow him, because he is so fast, you can’t do without. Then you attache. But you’d have to be one of the best fighters ever. that’s why I chose you, Rebecca. Your tricks with the sword are legendary.”

“Umm…. What about a hunter? They would be way better.” corrected Rebecca. Then the Enderman stared at her like there was a tree growing out of her ear.

“Umm… ahem? Enderman here? Hunter? Kills?!” said the Enderman. Rebecca’s cheeks turned red with embarrassment.

“What about a user?’ asked Rebecca. The Enderman rolled his eyes, which actually looked really weird. He let out a tired sigh.
“Obvious, Rebecca, obvious. Also, they would either run away at the sight of me, or foolishly attache. Also, they can’t understand us.”

Rebecca sighed. She was the perfect pick, after all. Then she said to him,

“OK. Lead the way.” and then took off after him, after an epic journey of a lifetime.
